What Is the Vervoe Assessment?

The Vervoe assessment is an AI-graded skills test built from real job tasks in video, code, spreadsheet, and written form. How it works and what to expect.

What Is the Vervoe Assessment?
The Vervoe assessment is a skills-based hiring test: instead of abstract reasoning puzzles, candidates complete samples of the actual job, written answers, recorded video and audio responses, live coding challenges, spreadsheet tasks, even a presentation built and delivered on the spot, and an AI grades the work. There is no standard length or question count, because each employer assembles its own assessment from Vervoe's formats and its library of more than 300 ready-made tests. This article explains how the platform works, how the AI scoring is designed, and how a work-sample score differs from a cognitive test result.

How a Vervoe assessment works

Vervoe's pitch is "hiring on merit, not background": show what you can do rather than where you have been. An assessment is built from eight question formats, including written response, video and audio answers, code challenges with automated test runners, spreadsheet tasks completed in real spreadsheet software, file uploads for portfolios, randomized multiple choice, and presentation mode. Anti-cheating runs quietly underneath: answer randomization, plagiarism detection, and geolocation checks. Founded in Melbourne in 2016 by Omer Molad and David Weinberg, Vervoe remains independent, with customers including Walmart, Australia Post, MYOB, and G4S.

How the AI grading is designed

Vervoe describes three scoring lenses. Performance on real work tasks carries the weight; role-specific knowledge checks are "weighted conservatively," used to confirm fundamentals rather than rank on trivia; and work-style questions inform the hiring brief but never the ranking. The company emphasizes traceability, every score is meant to point back to the evidence that produced it, and feeds hiring-manager ratings from about 120 days after hire back into its models. It also states that its AI has been independently validated by the auditing firm Holistic AI. Those are vendor commitments rather than published psychometrics, but they are unusually concrete for the industry.

Is the Vervoe assessment an IQ test?

No, and it is not trying to be. Vervoe sits in the work-sample tradition, which has strong standing in selection research precisely because it measures the job rather than the person's general ability. A Vervoe score says how well you performed role tasks against the employer's benchmarks; it says nothing about your standing on a cognitive scale, and no IQ-type score is produced. For the broader landscape these tests live in, see our definitive guide to skills assessments and our comparison of skill assessments and personality tests. And if you want the other half of the picture, a measured profile of your reasoning abilities, the Reasoning and Intelligence Online Test from RIOT IQ measures six cognitive abilities with real norms; you can take a free IQ test and see your profile in under an hour.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Vervoe assessment take?

There is no standard length. Each employer builds its own assessment, so duration varies by role and the formats included.

How does Vervoe's AI grading work?

Task performance is scored against role benchmarks, with conservative knowledge checks and non-ranked work-style questions alongside. Scores are designed to trace back to your actual answers.

Can Vervoe detect cheating?

It runs randomization, plagiarism detection, and geolocation checks in the background. Tricks advertised by prep sites are not supported by how the scoring is described.

Is Vervoe a personality test?

No. Work-style questions exist but do not affect ranking; the score rests on demonstrated job skills.

Who owns Vervoe?

Vervoe is an independent company, founded in Melbourne in 2016 by Omer Molad and David Weinberg.
